In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ²He was in the beginning with God. ³All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being ⁴in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. ⁵The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (John 1:1-5)

I wish you a Blessed New Year!

The Gospel according to John begins with three simple words: In the beginning… In other words, for John, Jesus didn’t just start at Christmas; Jesus has always been, Jesus was with God. In fact, he was the Living Word of God, and he helped create the world, in the beginning, before anything else existed.

He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. (John 1:10-11)

John continues, but to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God. (John 1:12)

This is amazing grace !

It’s a new year, and a time for new beginnings.  None of us start this New Year alone, regardless what the new year brings along, because Jesus Christ promises to be with us every day in the coming year and always.  He brings us light. He chooses to forgive the past and presents us with a future that is filled with blessing and grace.

“If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come.” (2. Cor. 5:17)

Jesus promises to forget all our sins and all our failures. It’s a second chance, a blank canvas, a new beginning for us. And according to John, all you have to do is receive it as a gift, and it is yours.

A new beginning from a loving God.  Happy New Year!

Alussa oli Sana. Sana oli Jumalan luona, ja Sana oli Jumala. Jo alussa Sana oli Jumalan luona.
Kaikki syntyi Sanan voimalla. Mikään, mikä on syntynyt, ei ole syntynyt ilman häntä.
Hänessä oli elämä, ja elämä oli ihmisten valo. Valo loistaa pimeydessä, pimeys ei ole saanut sitä valtaansa. (Joh. 1:1-5)

Siunattua uutta vuotta!

Johannes evankeliumi alkaa yksinkertaisesti, vain kolme sanaa: alussa oli sana. Jeesus Johanneksen mukaan aloittanut pelkästään joulua; Jeesus on aina ollut, Jeesus oli Jumalan kanssa. Jeesus oli Jumalan Elävä Sana ja hän auttoi maailman luomisessa, alussa, ennen kuin mikään muu oli olemassa.

Maailmassa hän oli, ja hänen kauttaan maailma oli saanut syntynsä, mutta se ei tuntenut häntä. Hän tuli omaan maailmaansa, mutta hänen omansa eivät ottaneet häntä vastaan. (Joh. 1:10-11)

Johannes jatkaa, mutta kaikille, jotka ottivat hänet vastaan, hän antoi oikeuden tulla Jumalan lapsiksi, kaikille, jotka uskovat häneen. (Joh. 1:12)

Tätä on ihmeellinen armo!

On uusi vuosi, ja aika uusille aluille. Kukaan ei aloita uutta vuotta yksin, huolimatta siitä mitä se tuo tullessaan, sillä Jeesus Kristus lupaa olla kanssamme joka päivä tänä vuonna ja aina. Hän tuo valon, lupaa elämän. Hän lupaa antaa meille anteeksi menneet ja osoittaa kohti siunauksen ja armon tulevaisuutta.

Jokainen, joka on Kristuksessa, on siis uusi luomus. Vanha on kadonnut, uusi on tullut tilalle! (2. Kor. 5:17)

Jeesus lupaa antaa anteeksi kaikki syntimme ja epäonnistumisemme. Tämä on uusi mahdollisuus, tyhjä kanvaasi, uusi alku meille itse kullekin. Ja Johanneksen mukaan meidän ei tarvitse tehdään mitään muuta saadaksemme tämä lahja, kuin ottaa se vastaan.    

Uusi alku rakastavalta Jumalalta. Hyvää uutta vuotta!
