Agricolassa valmistaudutaan kirkkovuoden kohokohtaan

Pääsiäisviikolla eletään ja koetaan koko pääsiäistapahtumien sarja. Kirkolla seurataan Jeesuksen maanpäällisen elämän viimeisiä vaiheita ja vietetään ylösnousemuksen juhlaa. Jokainen tilaisuus on erilainen ja seuraa raamatunkertomuksia tapahtumista 2000 vuotta sitten. Niinpä kirkolla eletään parhaillaan kiireistä aikaa järjestelyjen ja juhla-ajan odotuksen merkeissä. Palmusunnuntai - Tiellä ken vaeltaa Palmusunnuntaina Jeesus ratsasti Jerusalemiin. Palmunoksat tuodaan kirkkoon juhlavasti riemukulkueessa. Suomessa palmunoksia on vaikeampi saada, joten kirkko koristellaan pajunoksilla. Koristelluilla pajunoksille virvotaan Jeesuksen Jerusalemiin ratsastamisen muistoksi. Virpomaoksat toimivat siunauksena, terveyden tuojina ja pahan karkoittajin...

Agricola is Preparing for Easter

Image
The week leading up to Easter allows us to live the story of Easter. We follow in the footsteps of Jesus during His last days on earth, and finish by celebrating His resurrection. We remember this day by decorating the church with palm tree leaves or other branches. Everyone at Agricola will receive a palm tree leaf, and palm tree leaves are brought into the sanctuary in a joyous parade. In Finland, it is more difficult to get palm tree leaves, so churches are often decorated with willow branches that have pussywillows. To harken back to the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem, decorated branches have been used in Finland to wish blessings to others. At Agricola,...

Greetings From Our Pastor, March 2018

Dear March, come in! Easter is on April 1st this year and I figured that it would be a bit late write about it in April. Easter is the very centre and the climax of the church year. It is truly a celebration of life and joy! We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It means that risen Christ has opened us a new way and new hope from death to life.  Easter is also the oldest of the Christian celebrations going back all the way to the second century when both the death and the resurrection were a one celebration. Good Friday dates back to the 4th century. “Christ is risen! Shout Hosanna! Celebrate this day of days! Christ is risen! Hush in wonder; all creation is amazed. In the desert all-surrounding, see, a spreading tree has grown. Healing leaves of grace abounding bring a taste of love unknown.” ELW 383 Easter is all about new life in Christ. New life indeed! We as a can embrace this new life in so many ways. As the winter gives away to spring and summ...
